Origin
Briant Ogando grew up in Santo Domingo, where his mother kept him close to sports to ster him away from trouble. When a Jiu Jitsu instructor invited him to train for free, itchanged the course of his life. Years later, after leaving a tech career, he moved to Cabarete to build something with purpose. That vision became Tribu.
An athletic Jiu Jitsu club that hosts retreats for visitors while giving local kids the same opportunity Briant was once given. One offers perspective, the other opportunity. Together they create a rhythm of life that makes Tribu feel alive. A place where Jiu Jitsu gives life meaning on both sides of the mat.
Feel the pulse
Tribu has a special rhythm that works in two directions.
People visit Cabarete to train, relax, and inmerse in a welcoming culture.
When they come, their experience help support our kids’ team. Their training actually makes it possible for local kids from underserved backgrounds to get free classes, gear, rides, and a safe place to grow.
Visitors get perspective.
Kids get opportunity.
Together, they create a cycle that keeps Tribu alive. A place where Jiu Jitsu helps everyone on both sides of the mat.
The Space
Tribu sits on the fifth floor, high above Cabarete, with fresh air, sunlight, and a full view of the ocean. It’s an open, calm place where you can train, breathe, and feel connected.
The mat area, the tea + cacao bar, and the chill community space are all part of one big open layout. Nothing is closed off. Everything feels natural and easy. It’s more than a gym. It’s a spot where people come to get healthier, reset their mind, and feel part of something.
It’s a space built for movement, recovery, and connection. A place that makes you feel good the moment you walk in.
